Should I be offended?

I was at a local performance parts shop today, they had ordered the wrong tailgate lip cover, so the owner walked out to check it against my tailgate.

He looked at FRANKENCAP and said "I like what you've done with your truck"

Shakes his head and say "Oh you farmers!"

Then added "You've taken a beautiful truck and made it look like crap"

I've been in this shop several times, I've spoken to this guy for hours picking his brain and he's a great guy.

I'm not sure whether I should be offended or not.

The cap is temporary, it does its job of protecting my tools and materials, and I've actually grown to like having a cap. So the fact that it looks like an abortion doesn't really bother me...IT WORKS.

As for being called a farmer, I'm just not sure how I should react, cuz truth is when I was a kid we had a farm, my father was brought up on a farm, my cousins are farmers. So, I suppose I'm genetically predisposed or something.

When I go back I'm going to be wearing my overalls and rubber boots!

Should I get Dave Peters on the case or what?

my family are all farmers and id say take it as a compliment. Im getting from his quote to mean, you farmers are bada$$es and do whatever the hell you want..without giving a crap what others think. :D thats what im thinking as you know the guy and have dealt with him before.
I would take the farmers remark that I am very resourcefull. I would have to admit looking at the pics of your FRANKENCAP it looks like sh!t. However, I would do the same thing if in the same boat, it is called making it work. It serves a purpose and thats it. My friend took my tool box and put it in his ranger because he need the storage for a road trip, it went in length wise and looked stupid, but it worked. I always laugh at cars, like a cavalier or neon that have 24" or bigger rims that are worth more then the car was new...they serve NO purpose. Now if they were on a Mercedes, BMW, or similar that is a horse of a different color.

A lot of the farmers I know are pretty ingenius, they usually get a vehicle and break out the torches to make it serve their purpose, so I suppose you have a point.
Being that you have had several conversations with him in the past, he probably feels a bit more comfortable making comments like that and probably thinks you don't care of anyone's comments. I say laugh about it...
Well I read your original post about the cap and since I grew up on a farm and thought "Hey! I have done that with my nissan and a long bed Ford shell" and thought it looked horrible on my old crapper and was wondering why you would do it to a nice Tundra I would take it as You should remove it. BUT I know you have it there for a reason and would suggest removing it as soon as you can OR get the correct one.

OR just put AC in it and be happy. Here is a Diagram for the last option

Why be offended?
If they don't like it whose problem is it exactly?

I think it looks better than I thought it would from the beforehand conversations and if it gets the job done?

People have been asking me stupid questions about why my cap is not the "Right" color for the truck.
It is really growing on me, It works well and was inexpensive. I think the color even looks nice.
Look in my album,I can't find the pic I loaded from.
I think ya should hang some of the old canvas water bags off the sides of it throw some manure around Frankencap and all will be good again. just need some more dingle berrys thingies on it to pretty er up a notch. Then they will have something to talk about

if still dosent work you are going to have to contact Peters for help.

I think it depends on the context. If he is one of those people to thinks farmers are a bunch of dumb country bumpkins and jumps to conclusions about individuals, then I'd say "Yeah", you should be offended.

I'd take my business else where from now on.
Well it does look like crap, but he probably should have said something more along the lines of that cap would look great painted to match the truck...hinting that it didn't look good but being more subtle about it. Especially since you are a customer.
I say slug him in the gut and dropkick him in the head ;)

On a more serious note, just brush it off. People will always be biased to what their preference is. It's the same thing as people that like 4x4's hate minitrucks, and vice versa. It's a never ending battle. :)
You have to admit he is right on the "looking like crap" part. Take it as constructive criticism and thank him for his honesty. Hopefully now you will have a complex while driving and fear that everyone is looking at you in awe....:D
It's just this guy's tactless way of encouraging you to upgrade your cap ASAP. He's all about upgrades working in a performance parts shop. Ignore it. Frankencap doesn't suck because it does what it was meant to do, and that's beautiful man. :D

Its funny how things can grow on you, I know Frankencap is an abomination on such a good looking truck, but it has started to grow on my. The guys I work with had a giggle at first, but now they think the white cap on the black truck looks good, and since many of them have put their own gear in the back they appreciate it.

One guy with a tonneau has decided he wants a cap now, his truck is a splash with the narrow box, and he wants a cap that isn't wide behind the cab then narrows. That way it will look more like an SUV.

And why, because of Frankencap.

I agree that cap does grow on ya after awhile...

I saw a truck today with something similar, even more hidious, it was a longbox Ford with a shortbox cap. He had the cap up against the cab, and two feet of open space at the back.

It looked ridiculous.
Man he coulda used a couiple of your 2 x 12s!

Course most call my shell ugly, not all pretty like some here have.
But its very functional for my needs, when its loaded my saws and drills are right there. open the side door and away ya go.
bigger items come out the back.
I should take some pictures when I haul the 2 x 4 x10's
open the rear window, open the sky light, open window in the shell. stuff em in and close the door, good to go!
Maybe I should find a cap made for an 8 foot bed, let it hang over the tailgate.

That way I could put longer ladders on my truck. lol
Look for a used trailer. Put Frankencap on it when it's done on your Tundra. Size matters not.

Nice cap rambrush. What is that; Gem, Unicover, or what?
