I want to buy a led tailgate strip to go below the tailgate and act as a turn/brake light. The only problem is that the hole to insert the rod to let down the spare tire will be covered up. Are there any alternative ways to get the spare tire down if need be?

Or possible solutions to the problem?

Could be no one replied because no one was interested. It happens.

It is supposed to be difficult to get the spare tire down without using the tool in the hole provided for it, and I know of no easy way to do so. If it could be removed easily, then it could be stolen easily. So, be careful what you wish for, as the law of unintended consequences is self-enforcing.

Maybe just the hook that goes into the cone along with a 6-point socket wrench that fits the square end of the hook piece?

Jack that is a good idea. Checked to see if there is enough room with just the end piece under there and there would be plenty of space for a socket wrench to move. Don't have a socket in the garage that fits. It's just bigger than a 7/16 though

Which would be 1/2 I guess lol

Maybe weld a nut or even a socket to the end of the bar.

My wife had bought me one of those light strips, it was suppose to be the best brand with highest reviews. It had full length brake lights with amber leds on each end that worked with the turn signals and even changed to white in reverse. Within a year only half the bulbs worked. My advice is don't waste your money. If you are dead set on having one I had mounted mine a little below the spare tire hole and just notched a section of the strip where the hole is without getting into the actual light strip.

Hmm thanks for the info Kevin. I just blacked out my tail lights and wanted more lights back there so as not to get pulled over/ rear ended. This is changing the topic, yes I know but what other lights could I get to help with brightness but look low profile? Still want to find another way to remove spare tire though! Six point socket doesn't work as the end of the rod is not exactly square.
