I had a weird problem yesterday when I tried to start my truck. When I turned the key to start the truck it started and then died. On the second attempt, it wouldn't start and when I released the pressure on the key, the starter continued to run for about 3-5 seconds. I let it sit for a minute or so, I could get it to start by pressing on the gas pedal, but it would die immediatly. So I swapped out the fuel pump relay in the engine compartment fuse box with another one. (they are blue and have 5 posts)!

The truck started and did not die. I swapped the relay back to their original posistions and it has been running and starting as it should!

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

Only happed to me on an old 4Runner when the battery was near death - found out I had a dead cell, but not a completely dead battery. As far as usefulness, to me the battery was dead and went in for an interstate MEGATRON.... Back then, the 4Runner would sit through the hot summers in the driveway waiting for the winter while I drove my car.

I had this same problem with my 07 Tundra last winter (South Dakota and it was like 2 deg in my garage but the battery was fully charged). Exactly like you described it. What I did was cycle random electronics (door locks, windows, key fob buttons etc.). For some wierd reason that fixed the problem. The truck started just fine and I havn't seen that oddity since. I'm guessing some logic needs reseting when that happens and that can be done by sending random trons through the system. Who knows?
