Thinking its time to do some prevenative maintenance on my 1998 T100 and am trying to decide if I should change the a/t fluid myself or find a shop that has one of those flush machines. Any thoughts on which way?

Also does my trans need any type of special a/t fluid from Toyota or can I use aftermarket fluid from Penzoil, Castrol, etc?

Mobil1 synthetic ATF or Amsoil ATF highly recommended. You should be able to do it yourself. It takes about an hour. Otherwise, take the fluid to a "quicky lube" place and they will do the flush for you. It usually runs about $40-50 if you bring in the fluids.
