I'm looking for something cheap and reliable for my girlfriend. I came across a 97 Avalon, black on black leather with 133k miles. The owner said there is no work that needs to be done. He's asking $1850. Is there anything specific I should look for when checking out this car?

Regular oil changes...people killed these 3.0L engines with poor maintenance. But if this one went 133k, it very likely had regular maintenance. Our old '99 has about 175k on it & no problems to date.

I'd still have a mechanic drain the oil & look in with a borescope for signs of sludge in the bottom end of the engine. Top end will require pulling a valve cover since there's a baffle under the oil fill.
