I was changing the oil on my civic and my 2007 4.7 Tundra started making a noise. Just curious what it is and what it was doing (and if it's normal). It ran for a few minutes only.

I was a small motor mounted under the bed behind the fuel tank. I attached a picture.

What is this and is it supposed to run while the truck is off?

Mine does it to, I think it may be part of the evaporative purge system for fuel vapors, My old tacoma had something like it that when it was off it sat and grunted for hour up on end, I have lost track of the new technology I am a diesel mechanic and hope to not have to work on my truck or car much, Lol

Jon is correct.

That is the EVAP Purge system. Built up fuel pressure is relieved there, and sometimes can make some odd noises. :) Nothing to worry about.
