My tundra currently has Michelin 265 70 16's. I am considering replacing those with 245 75 16's. I live in snow country and the narrower tire might be better in the snow. I will be putting a pop up camper in the truck bed. The narrower tire has a heavier load rating. Is there a downside to a narrower tire on the Tundra? thanks - this Forum has been very helpful.

I think the only things you have to worry about are rims (what size does your new tire fit) and diameter of the tires (more ABS related but can affect speedometer accuracy).

If you have the stock 16x7 rims then 245/75/16 are optimal for the 7" wide wheels. I'll probably go back down a size to 245/75/16 when my current tires wear out for better mileage. Also the diameter is the same as the stock 265/70 so the speedometer is not affected.

I just did the exact same thing. I took the stock 265/70s off and put 245/75 snow tires on the TRD rims. Same reason as you, better tire section for snowy roads. The truck doesnt really drive any different, and they tires are the same height as stated above.

The idea of narrower tires for snow seems to lost on a lot of the younger drivers. For them, looks over function is priority. Having a wrecked truck is way uglier than some not so wide tires for a few months of the year. 245 as narrow. It wasn't all that long ago that a 245 would have been a very wide tire, and I remember people getting around ok with 2wd and much narrower tires.
