Totally Confused about what to do for my exhaust??

I have an 05' Tundra and I'm looking to put a new exhaust system on it as long with a new air intake system. however i am totally confused as what to do because i've read that Toyota engineered the exhaust size to be perfect for the low-end torque of the truck, so I'm told not to increase the size of the pipes and just put on an aftermarket muffler, saving my money and torque. Don't know what to do, so if u have any ideas please let me know.

Why mess with perfection ? If it aint broke don't fix it!

Bingo, that is correct. Don't screw with the pipes. I put on a Spintech muffler, and seat of the pants, gained some juice. Somebody on here has the same setup and dynoed it, I think it was a 5HP and 8ft.lb. torque gain, or about there. Just get a solid muffler that sounds good, a new exhaust tip, and call it good.

x2 thats what i did
Headers get some headers.
Headers get some headers.
He's got a VVTi motor which if I'm correct doesn't respond as well to headers as the non-VVTi motor does.
cut off resonator with magnaflow muffler and volant intake!! :D
I heard if you remove the resinators, the truck has a mean drone in the cab. I lef tmine on and love the Magnaflow sound. Very little diff inside, but outside there is a big diff.

Headers and a muffler.

You will be happy with the results. Dyno results do not fully reflect the part throttle gains of both. Air intake helps too, but stick with Trueflow or Airaid.
Well, I learned the hard way so Tuesday I go in for removal of 3" tailpipe and custom bending a 2.5" from muffler out. Could have saved some money and just bought muffler and tip, then had pipe bent to raise the tip higher so it's not so close to the ground.Anyway it'll be right pretty soon.
Which Magnaflow muffler did you guys put on ur truck?

Has anyone done some 1/4 mile runs with headers and an intake on the VVTi engine? Where is the proof that headers produce results???
A little off topic, i noticed toyota offers trd performance ezhaust and then on some sites i notice some tundras coming with borala off the showroom floor. Are they the same?? You could always go that route.

basically except the borlas are cheaper maybe even half the cost
I got 2.5" piping with a 14" magnaflow on my X-SP and I happy with it. I also got the resonator removed later on because I wanted it just a tad bit louder and that fixed it. I didn't loose any low end torque because I'm constantly towing and I made sure I went with a setup where I wouldn't come out making the truck weaker. Everyone likes the tone of my truck, I was next to a Tundra (VVT-i motor) with duals and he said mine sounded better than his which I would also have to agree. If you don't want it as loud, I am only 23 so I like the tone, you could go with the 22" Magnaflow. I have clips in my gallery if interested.
