I was planning on buying a Platinum Warranty which they say they won't give me, so if I take the Powertrain Warranty, I don't get all the other crap covered. If I buy the Platinum, the free Powertrain Warranty is redundant and worthless.

Thoughts?

I would just take the powertrain warranty since it's free. However if you really feel the need for the platinum warranty, go ahead and buy it :)

This sucks. If you stick with just the powertrain then your going to get screwed when your emissions pumps go out($3000). I guess I would have to recommend biting the bullet and getting the platinum plan. Maybe you could ask them for an extra special discount on the platinum plan? Good luck!

i'd ask for a discount on the plat warranty....tell them the situation that you have already planned on getting the plat warranty and that their "offer" doesnt really apply to you. how long are they extending the powertrain warranty?

not that it applies at all here, but hyundai on the 03 tiburon misquoted the hp on the V6 GT models and i bought one. they misquoted it by about 30 hp. it was advertised heavily based on hp. anyway, they were offering extended warrantys as one of the offers to compensate those who demanded something. i already had that warranty so they wound up giving me one month's car payment in check form. i bought exhaust haha. but basically im saying if u push hard enough they might have other things to offer to you if what they are offering isnt going to work for you.

flip side is it might be hard since u dont have the warranty yet....and they may think u just are saying it to get somethign else...who knows.

I paid 889 for the platinum 2 months ago on my 5.7 crewmax so if they charge you only 400 bucks for the platinum( their cost) then go for it IF YOUR TRUCK HAS LETS SAY 20-30,000 MILES ON IT.

But in all due honesty I would push hard for THEM TO PAY IT ALL out of their pockets if they were going to tear into my new truck with less then 1000 miles ON THE METER!

I was fortunate enough to plead my case to the right person at Toyota Corp. I purchased a vehcile that was effected by the TSB and within 80 miles the CEL came on. The local dealer tried to find me another vehicle but wasnt successful. At that point Toyota called to asked how my buying experiance was, after my explination I was transferred and began speaking with someone who was assigned to my "case". Toyota Corp found a comparable truck (Platinum CM) but this one was also effected by TSB and they offered me a $2k loyalty credit as well as the Platinum warranty without the $50.00 deductable. I had the dealer fix vvti and I'm feeling lucky after all of the stories I'm hearing on here...I would suggest asking to be assigned to another case manager.

You might want to consider how long you are going to keep your truck? If you are not planning on keeping the truck beyond the warranty they are offering then that may be a point of concession, not sure? I would go for the platinum personally if at all possible to CYA!!!! I have to agree with the others, I would offer to pay the difference in their cost to get the Platinum if they just won't budge. It would be worth it in my opinion.
Good luck!!!

I had planned on getting the 8yr/125K warranty. I kept my last truck for 12 years. I plan on keeping this one as long or longer.

They are offering 6 yrs/100K powertrain warranty. The MSRP on the powertrain warranty is $1375, I have a quote for the 8/125 Platinum for $1630. So it doesn't seem much of a stretch for them to kick down the $255 difference.

m1Columbo - what is a $2K loyalty credit?

I made a big stink about how much of my time this whole process cost me and put a dollar amount associated to it. They wanted to give me $1k at first and was able to make them stretch it to $2k. They sent me a check for the amount as promised.

The other option is to tell them you don't want a defective truck (if very low mileage) and that you want your money back if they don't want to go above and beyond SO YOU can go buy a FORD!

No offense but I would go APE with CORPORATE over this!
They push to see how far they can get or how far you are willing to go. Don't fall for their B.S.

At least you need a free platinum for your troubles and time and possibly future loyalty......

CALL TOYOTA CORP and get to reaping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took a vehicle to a manufacturer (Japanese but not Toyota) and gave them the keys and said SAYONARA AFTER I SAID TO g.m. new car or my money back. I got a new vehicle DUE to paint issues on a car with 180 miles on it. AND A 7/100,000 NO DEDUCTIBLE WARRANTY TO BOOT! It took a while but I did it!

FWIW ... my 2007 Tundra's (5.7, RCLB) transmission went out at about 500 miles. The dealer gave me a Camry to drive, put in a new transmission a few days later and Toyota Corp. gave me a $00.00 Deductible - 7 Year Platinum Warranty for my troubles. I have owned many Toyotas and they have always been fair to me.

I traded that 2007 Tundra in on a 2009 Tacoma and that Platinum Warranty ended up costing Toyota nothing and I bought another truck from them.

PS ... I don't know all of your details, but, you can buy that Platinum Warranty on line for probably less than $1,000 for the full 8 years/125K. As you know, those things are pure profit for the dealer.

I guess I am lucky to have no problems with my 08 5.7 crewmax. I also bought it at a dealer around here that offers free lifetime and unlimited mile powertrain warranty. It will be all the little stuff that is going to cost me in the long run.

My VIN falls subject to the TSB. I have about 10k miles and no CEL issues. What are the recognizable symptoms of the VVTi other than the CEL and code? Since day 1 on rolling stops, she likes to shift to 1st, reving high, rather than going to a more comfortable 2nd. But from what I've read it sounds like this is totally unrelated. Right/Wrong? Get it checked/Dont worry about it? -Appreciate input here.
