Does a 1st Gen have a Transmission filter in the pan at all or is it just a metal screen?

It is a metal screen that is generally referred to as a "filter". It only "filters" to 115-125 microns. Several of us here have installed a Magnefine inline ATF filter in the return line from our external ATF coolers. It filters down to 15-25 microns.
