Hi Folks. it's been quite a while since I've been on here. I want to upgrade the HU in my 06 DC. The volume control has failed and the CD player does not work properly anymore. It has the JBL audio system in it. I've been doing a lot of reading and based on what I've learned so far, this is the approach I am thinking of taking. Replace the JBL HU with a Kenwood DDX376BT. I chose this HU because it seems to have all of the features I want and is within the price point I want to be. I want to retain the factory JBL amp, and to do that I know I would need to add an interface like the Axxess TYTO-01. Also, realizing that to retain the factory amp I will also need to retain the factory speakers due to the 2 ohm requirement. I know the speakers need the foam repair kit, as they are currently rattling, so I will replace the foam in the existing speakers. I know there are a lot of other options, but this one seems like the most economical and the least amount of changing/modifying. This it would be worth it? Or just scrap everything and replace with new HU, Amp and Speakers?

Head unit and speakers would be sufficient, you wouldn't need another amp. Your decision just depends on budget. I chose to pull the jbl system and replace everything. Was worth it to me instead of rehabbing a 15 year old one

My 02 AC tape and CD quit. I bought an Alpine unit from Crutchfield with optional service of them wiring connectors to match truck. Single DIN, so I gained a caddy. I have a 7 inch tablet and bluetooth to Alpine on trips. I use Musicolet software. Works great. 5 minute install with connectors. Scrapped amp.

Forgot to say...my tablet has over 4200 songs with album art. Can sort by artist, album, genre, etc. Make playlists to save.

Thought I'd post an update. Decided to do a total rip and replace. New Kenwood 6 1/2 speakers in all 4 doors. Kenwood DDX396 Excelon head unit and Rockville SS8P 8" sub. Also installed back up camera (running the wire for that was a pain). Overall, very happy with the system. The sub is not mind blowing but I did not want it to be. It rounds out the bass very nicely. Thanks to those of you who offered your opinions. Good info.
