V6 Off Road?

As a new member, I would like to first say thank you for the help I have already received and any future assistance. My question today is regarding the dependablity and performance of a V6 Tundra used off road, and to carry some weight in the back. I live in Southern CA and I use my current truck in the deserts here and in baja to surf, camp, and dirtbike. I do very little towing, and would rather have the V6 for gas reasons. Does anyone drive a V6 in these conditions or have any suggestions for me? I want to buy my Tundra within the next month, but still am making up my mind which one. Thanks again

James at The Truck Shop in San Diego had a V6 Tundra that had long travel, Glass and alot of nice stuff. The 3.4 is a great motor so I do not see a problem. MANY people run it in their offroad trucks and I plan on having it in the next truck I build. Those motorsa are pretty much bullet proof as long as you do your usual maintenance like oil changes and so on. It can tow a decent amount of weight as well. Get one and be happy
What do you think or have heard about the 4.0 v6? Any common problems with them? Ary notable differences? Thanks for your reply

OOHH the new 4.0 is what you are talking about. I do not know anyone with one in a Tundra but I do know people with them in the 4 runner and taco. I even know someone that put it in their desert truck. That is a good motor as well but has not been out as long as the 3.4 so I do not know as much about it. So far very impressed with it and the reliability seems to be up to par. That is a good suggestion on the Taco unless you need the larger truck. (Not that much larger)

Yeah, that's about it :tu:. Too bad it's ~impossible to import a good FJ...box, medium wheelbase, turbo diesel...but I know you meant FJ Cruiser :clown:...and you're still right.

You really only need the space/capacity of a truck if you're going to the middle of nowhere for days at a time, and need aux fuel/water, or plan to carry toys (mtb, moto, longboard, etc), or both. Then a truck is awful handy.

Maybe ask in the Tacoma forum here about the 4.0? It's been around for a few years now. The Toyota story is that it's more efficient than the 4.7 and more powerful than the 3.4.

I really like my 4.0 , but that valves noice ...totally annoing!
I love my 4.0 it is an awesome engine, plenty of power to tow my FJ (real FJ40). But there is a noise that it makes that is very annoying (nothing a nice loud intake and exhaust combo can't cover up). My 07 is way faster than my best friends 01. Both great engines!
Maybe this is the question you should be asking:The 4.0 6 cyl has 236 hp and the older version 4.7 8 cyl only has 240 hp. Many are happy with the older 4.7, so would there be much difference off road with the new 4.0 6 and the old 4.7 8?
i have a v6 but its supercharged with headers,,,pulley mod,,,the engine itself is extremely reliable,,,u cannot tow that much with it unless you have modded it up though,,,but if your going to run it offroad your gonna need more power,i have plenty but ive got plenty of mods as well,,,the engines great,,,i love it ,,i run it hard in sand and dirt..
