06 Tundra
V6 4.0

I dont remember this happening before but whenever i go WOT at approx around 40-65 mph it seems to search gears and then downshift into 2nd and take off. Its not as responsive as i remember it being.. sometimes it doesnt shift into 2nd either it stays in third. any ideas?

has almost 50,000 miles on it and i have never done it once
i should do that huh..

although i did take it to the dealer last year before my warranty expired and they fixed a broken seal on the transmission... i dont believe they flushed it or put new trans oil in... i would do it myself if the damn truck had a trans dipstick and a way to put the fluid in... the year tundra that i have for some reason didnt come with a trans dipstick.. what kind of **** is that

i just remember when i first got the truck that at WOT it would downshift to the correct gear instantly and take off.. now it seems to search and then it finds it. its about a 1 second lag.. hopefully its not significant damage.. i forgot to mention that i installed a CAI about 8 months ago.. but the problem didnt start till recently, or at least i think it did because i never noticed it before.. what bothers me most is when im going below 60 and i go WOT and it downshifts to 3rd instead of 2nd.. it never used to do that and i know that for a fact

Sometimes mine shifts down, then down again. I think it depends on if I'm on an incline or not and how I stomp the pedal. Do the fluid first. I noticed that with CAI my shifting was irregular compared to with the OEM box. It down shifted more often and seemed to rev higher before shifting up. Computers, they don't let us have any fun.

Just got a 05 and the shifting of the last post sounds like mine. Its like it knows its going downhill and shifts down to slow the truck down on the downhill with engine braking. Is this normal? Seems to stay longer in the power gears before going into od on level areas. I have the v8.

you really should read the owners manual. it will help you understand the very basic functions of your truck. like cold starting and engine braking. if you don't have one you really need to get one at the dealer or borrow someones.

^ He's right, the 05's and 06's have a down hill assist feature that downshifts to keep you from accelerating down hills to keep your brakes from wearing out. It is a bit annoying. I think you can activate it by tapping the brake pedal twice if I remember right.
