Hello all! First time caller, long time listener to the Forum!

I have a 2006 Dbl Cab V8 Auto thats throwing up a p0500 code. I have downloaded the service manuals and on page DI-701 that explains the code and diagnostics but does not show the location of the sensor. I have tried Google and searching the forum. Many suggest the sensors are on the transmission and they very well may be. The ones commonly suggested are listed in the manual as Speed Sensor SP2 and NT found on the driver and passenger side of the transmission. Each of which have 2pin connectors. However the manual calls for the VSS as a 3 pin connector on the 2UZ-FE. I'm at a loss here and I've looked everywhere I thought the sensor could be. At this point i'm about out of daylight but was hoping this might be a quick response from someone whose "been there done that". Pictures would be awesome but a good description would work too.

Thanks in advance,

John in NC

Vehicle Speed Sensors for the 04+ trucks are the ABS sensors in each wheel hub. You won't find the 3 pin VSS on the transmission tail housing or transfer case output like the pretty much every RWD Toyota/Lexus from the 80's to early 2000s. All you'll find are block off plugs in place, secured with a 10mm bolt.

I will need to do more research. I believe what you are saying but it doesn't make sense that the the manual never references this about the vehicle. Although I'm sure i probably missed it....

So I need to find an ABS code reader to see which sensor is malfunctioning. The ABS light has been on for a while now. It came on after I changed the upper ball-joints (which didn't need to be replaced). I changed those due to a cracking/popping noise in the suspension or chassis when the vehicle shifts weight. It still makes a noise. Knowing my luck I somehow managed to screw that up trying to fix an non-existant problem. Ironically this p0500 did not flash until I was in the snow on friday. The local Autoparts store was kind enough to let me borrow the code reader but it did not have an ABS option.

You have to check ABS codes by jumping two of the terminals in the OBD port under the dash. There's a write up for a Camry out there somewhere; works the same for all Toyotas. Then you count the ABS light flashes like an OBD-I check engine light.

Hey John,
Does your truck still make that noise? Mine does it when I'm backing up and then press the brake pedal.. I thought it might be brake related? Thoughts?
... On mine it's just one "crack or pop" as I step on the brake.
