I have a 2016 5.7 4x4 with tow package with 70k miles.
Looking to service transmission and have some questions.

1st off, is the filter (screen) really good for a lifetime?
or Should I drop the pan , clean the pan , magnets and replace this filter screen? or leave the screen and clean the pan and magnets?
If I dont drop the pan, how much fluid doesnt make it out of the pan when drained? 1/2 - 1 qt? Ive seen some videos where after the pan is drained it still had a few cups in the pan that were below the drain port.
How dirty can my pan and magnets be at 70k? Is cleaning the pan an important step in keeping the fluid fresh and clean?

2nd, Instead of doing a basic drain and fill of the approx 4qts that are in the pan, id like to replace all or most of the fluid.
Should I do a total of 3 drain and fills over a very short period of time?
Is there a technique to do a pan drain and fill , then start the truck just enough for the trans to drink up the fresh fluid in the pan, shut it off and do drain and fill the pan again 3 times while this new fluid is going through the system and forcing the old fluid into the pan to be drained.
Has anyone researched or used this technique ? , if yes how long should I start the truck enough to drink up whats in the pan.
I realize that I wont be able to replace all the used fluid with new fluid, but figured this might be a good technique to try and keep the new fluid mixing with the old and getting out as much as possible of the old fluid..

Let the transmission pump the fluid out.

- drop the pan abbr measure how much fluid is removed. Inspect filter and magnet. If big chunks, replace the filter and get financially ready fur a rebuild. Otherwise, reinstall the pan and refill with matching amount of new fluid.

Find the transmission cooler lines and disconnect where it enters the cooler. Connect a clear hose grom pipe to 5 gallon bucket. Start engine and run for 30 sec to a minute.
Shut off, measure amount in bucket and refill accordingly.

Repeat until you see clear fluid in the hose. Top off per manual.

Do NOT use a flush machine. This could dislodge varnish etc and push particulates into places where it should not go. Flush machines should only be used for regular, relative maintenance (ie every 40k since new)

Not trying to be an ass but I have never understood that suggestion you replace what you take out. You have no idea if its drastically over or underfilled so why would you do that. I cant remember the exact method but you're supposed to do something like let the tranny warm up to say 125 celsius then crack the overflow plug and allow excess to drain off and cap when it slows to a trickle.
If nothing comes out, its too low. So some have suggested a slight overfill first since its easier to drain off once the procedure is started rather than doing it twice.
