Sad for sure. I believe that some people are just doing a job and don't look past how their mistake can impact others.
I was changing oil in my old truck once and to speed up the process I started pouring in the first quart of new oil while still draining out the old. What could be wrong with that...
We are all capable of messing up. Glad it wasn't a heart transplant. But if Toyota won't pay for it it may cost as much as one. Chap
Scary thought it is, that's why I have the dealer do it. I had a '92 4runner I bought with 25 miles on it from a local dealer and was losing coolant that was handled by the V6 head gasket recall. 3 months later it was doing it again, dealer needed some inspiration from the regional office to repair his screw up and costs Toyota $5K for a new short block after the dealer installed the wrong head gaskets.
I kid you not, my local Toyota dealer had an add up hiring for oil change personnel and the ad said no experience necessary.
Unfortunately its a gamble no matter where you take your vehicle for service. The only good thing with going to a dealer if they did this, its probably a bit easier to get them to eat the cost.
Thanks for sharing, glad I have Toyota do mine. Don't understand if this person had free oil changes at dealer, why they went elsewhere. My ex took her 4runner to Walmart, the oil pressure gauges hasn't work since.
