This project started with a busted window from cutting grass. I purchased the replacement glass and proceeded to install the replacement (I'm too cheap to pay someone to do something I can do myself). To gain better access the bolt that holds the glass in I removed the door speaker and was appalled at the speaker construction and the size of the magnet so while I had the panel off I decided to do an upgrade similar to the first gen thread here: http://www.tundrasolutions.com/foru...ns.com/forums/audio-and-stereo/89322-1gen-factory-speaker-bracket-new-speakers/ There is a lot of confusion about speaker size but the front door speakers are indeed 6x9 even though Crutchfield.com and other sites will tell you there is no direct fit, that you must use an adapter plate and downgrade to 6-1/2" speakers. I had already bought the adapters, speakers and wiring connection in planning for a future speaker upgrade. Using the modification in the forum link there are no adapters needed. There is no real way to screw them in so adhesive is necessary to hold them in. You can use hot melt glue but I used Gorilla Glue. It is amazingly strong. The sound is better than before. For the font door speakers I soldered wire from the speaker terminals to the factory plug on the old speaker frame so the connections are solid and easily plugged in. I did the same for the rear speakers. Those are 6-1/2" speakers. The terminals for the rear speakers are so close to the factory terminals no wire is necessary. Just solder the terminals together. I read somewhere these trucks have 10 speakers but I have only found 8. I will check out the speaker situation in the front dash and behind the back seat soon to see what is in there. They may be tweeters since the door speakers were simple cone speakers. Hopefully this will help someone else.
