Does anyone know if Toyota is still fixing blown head gaskets on older 4runners free of charge? I know they were doing it on pick ups with the 3.0 V6 because I had them do it twice on two different trucks I had, a 1991 and a 93. They were great about it and even gave me a free loaner car. Anyway, I'm looking at a 1995 4runner for sale but it seems to have the same blown head gasket problem. Anyone had this done recently, is the recall still being honored? Thanks for any help

SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN (V06) FOR 1990 – EARLY 1995 TRUCK, 4RUNNER & T100 WITH 3VZ–E V6 ENGINES

Under the Special Service Campaign Program, the head gaskets will be replaced on all the affected vehicles regardless of leakage or not, and there will not be any age, mileage or time restrictions under the Special Service Campaign.

If it was already done there will be a SSC completion label affixed to the left front door hinge post near the check strap.

For what it's worth, I had a 1990 4-runner done in 1998, and they were great about it. I would bet they are still honoring it.

head gasket recall

I have 1993 4runner and I had the gasket done back in 1997 when it only had 80k miles and now it has 133k miles and seems like the gasket had failed again. i'm wondering if toyota is able to fix it again for free....

thanks in advance,
Geo

When I worked for a Toyota Dealership about 5 yrs ago (when recalls were pretty common) I though that the vehicle had to be still owned by the original owner, but don't quote me on that.

This is from the SPA V06 that was sent to all people.
This Special Policy Adjustment
extended the warranty coverage for the head gaskets to 8 years or 100,000 miles
The SPA (Special Policy Adjust) is no longer honered
The SSC V06 is still active.
As a result, for a specific group of the vehicles previously
involved in the Special Policy Adjustment, Toyota is now changing the handling
procedure to a Special Service Campaign.

Blown Head Gasket

I took my 1993 4Runner 3.0L V6 in for the head gasket recall in 2004 with 65,000 miles. Twelve months later it was running rough and blowing white smoke. Dealer replaced fuel injectors and said compression was good so the gaskets were good. Three months later I had both head gaskets blown. Replaced engine with a Jasper engine. Anyone have comments on Jasper engines in 4Runners? Also had oil cooler kit installed. Anyone know where this cooler is physically located?

Re: head gasket recall

Let me know what you find out.. I have a 1993 4 runner with headgasket problem.I read this site and info on SSCampaign. I was under the impression it would be covered. The dealership knew it had a head gasket put on in 1996. I told them I had not the money to fix it and not to take it off trailer if cost were involved. Three weeks later I am told no fix from Toyota .. No tag on hinge.. Just vin number ran by associate at dealership to state work was done in 1996. Warranty on that 8years. Again this was known by them before it was taken off trailer. I am basically left with a truck I cant use and $$$$ wasted.. Let me know if you find out anything. I was told a 1992 was done 6 weeks ago. Why no tag on my hinge from work done. in 1996.. ?? Just a headache and $$ wasted. I am told 4200 dollars would fix it. Three week they have had it and supposedly tried to get it covered by TOYOTA . Toyota said NO. But they did fix steering recall for me.. The truck body has surface rust and I have spent money like water to find the headgasket needs replaced. I have heard several times this was a bad deal..
Let me know what you find out mine is 1993 runner. Thanx again and God Bless

Re: Blown Head Gasket

This is what I have found to be true .. The 1993 6cyl 3.0 L have a design flaw and because of this.. That is why head gaskets are blown more than one time. The SSP Campaign for this Toyota is a fine line. My truck needs $4200. wirth of work due to head gasket. The dealership states the work was done by another dealership now closed. There was no sticker on hinge stating head gasket was replaced in May 1996 but the new revision of SSC states Oct 1996. So MY truck should be covered.. I am getting NOOOO due to 8yr 100,000 mile.. This campaign was replaced by the Oct 1996 one. If you have any info help me.
If you have had a similar problem with head gasket etc. Like I said this motor is notorious for blowing headgaskets.. Let me know your outcome help or no assistance by Toyota . I feel there is a Positive outcome and Knowledge is Key:)
Let me know ASASP Cathie ccrep@juno.com

The headgasket recall that states 8 years or 100,000 is no longer in effect. There was a revision to include numerous Toyota trucks as part of an ongoing headgasket recall. There is documentation from Toyota that states a Revisiona Dec 1997. This has no age or mileage stipulation that I can read. I sent the pages to 2 different dealership that agree with me that My Truck VIn is covered. The problem I am having is Toyota will not pay the bill. I was told to seek a lawyer. I cannot believe the headache this has been. I am treated so poorly and am looked at like I am totally out of line. This is the bottom line. The Service rep read the page stipulating since OCT 96. He stated Wow .. and then looked at VIN number s followed by Vin ranges and then told me NO my VIN was not there. Funny how 2 other dealerships and service people found my VIN in range of numbers under recalled Trucks. Toyota refuses to back me based upon Headgasket repair 5/96 ( no tags on hinge)business closed now. I am waiting for Supervisor from customer relations to call me tommarrow. I feel like David against Goliath. Let me know how you have fared and the outcome ! Thanx Cathie ccrep@juno.com

I forgot to mention the fact that the Toyota dealership knew my truck was serviced on5/96. I was told to tow it in. I did and was led to believe my truck would be fixed under Campaign. (They told me 5/96 so they knew ahead of time before my truck was towed in at my expense. 4 weeks later I am told no to the headgasket repair. So sorry and I have to pay to have my vehicle towed home without the headgasket repair. I find out that this dealership GrandBlanc Toyota MI made money off of my truck by doing Steering Rod Recall. So I am enticed by the Free Fix of Headgasket due to Recall and then I am told sooo sorry. Then the Service guy sees the pages stipulating OCT96 mine was done on 5/96. He tell me yeah I see what you are saying and we will do it right now if your VIN number falls in the VIn range for trucks .. He reads topline to topline when both sets of numbers coincide with VIN ranges... Again I am treated like a dingy and the answer soooo sorry.
I was misled and then paid for a tow for them to make money on another Campaign they knew would be paid for. I called Toyota and they say it is a dealership matter. How do they figure this???.. TOYOTA The BIG GUY Paid the Bill. Cmon... I say the dealership pulled a slick one. BY the way .. I am told my the Service mgr. the guy made a verbal mistake by telling you to tow it ( he knew work was done in 96) " Are you going to make us pay the bill because he made an error? Where is my "human" compassion.?? I am told this after I pay two tow bills and am misled. I am thinking he is bullying me when the dealership made their money.. Cmon.. ALL I know is something really stinks from the TOP to the Bottom!!! :( Cathie

i just bought a 94 4runner with the leaky gasket. i went to the dealer and they showed me it was repaired in 1998. they said it was no longer covered. the vehicle has 130000 miles. they say once it was done it is not covered anymore but I think it is an obvious design error, plus i read about them replacing the gaskets with faulty ones.

is there any way i can find out what type of gasket was used and who could i contact at toyota to get it fixed?

if toyota does not fix this i will never buy another toyota again. they should stand by their products.

Just a note for 4runner owners. I just bought a 92 with very low miles. It had not had any warranty repair work done and Toyota still honored the recall on the head Gasket. They fixed the steering and A/C recall as well. I just continue to be impressed with them. I can't imagine owning anything else.

I can't speak for any specific dealers in your areas but I know we still do a V06 about once every month or two where I work... if the tech finds damage on the cylinder walls after removal of the heads, they replace the block along with the head gaskets. There's no charge for that, but we usually request the customer pay to replace water pump, timing belt, etc while the engine is apart. That's mainly for our security so if a timing belt with 150k miles on it breaks the customer doesn't come back and say it's our fault because it didn't break until we worked on it. If you want to e-mail me your VIN I'll check for the V06 campaign on your vehicle. My e-mail is joeg_2001@yahoo.com

I tried to run the VIN but it says invalid.
Are you sure you wrote it down correctly?
JT3VN29V(XS)0087086 These 2 letters I highlighted are not correct.

I'm not sure if your e-mail ever got through or not but as he said above, I don't think this VIN is correct. Verify it and e-mail me back if you want.
