I just got the OEM Hood guard for an 08 Crewmax. The instructions, as usual, are some what lacking . It say to remove the "hood insert" then remove 5 screws.

It looks like the only way to remove the "hood insert" is to pry it off. Something I dont really want to do. Has anyone done this? how much force? and how many plastic pins broke?

I am thinking of returning this.

Removed my insert w very little effort. No problem w any pins. they seem very durable. Just wrap a screwdriver w tape or cloth and start at one end and gently pry up, doesn't take a lot of force but just be sure you don't scratch your hood. Goes back on equally as easy.

Coming off is easy.... re-installing in very cold temperatures can cause unwanted results.... just ask me.... mine cracked when I put it back on.... it seemed very brittle.... it was about 20 degrees out.... give or take. Maybe I wasn't being patient because it was 1:30 in the morning.... either way it is cracked. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy a new one for ~$65-70 or if I want to replace it with a billet insert from Carriage Works.......

Figures the OEM product didn't come with a plastic tool to get it off like the AVS comes with. Pop-it off with a screw driver with the end wrapped in tape to protect the grille edge.

Took me 15 mins start to finish to install the hood bug deflector.
