My aunt has a 00 Sienna and CEL just came on last last weekend and i tried to reset it twice; first time i got only P0441 but second time i got P0441 and P0446; just yesterday her CEL came on again and it's still P0441 and P0446.

She says all 3 times it comes on while she is waiting for her kid to come out from the school, idling the car from 3 to 5 mins (could have been a little bit longer but no longer than 10 mins for sure)...

so when i checked the VSV for EVAP in the engine bay and the VSV for ACIS, everything seems to be normal; talked to the dealer and they sold me a 90910-12264 and i dun even have a clue where it goes (maybe it was getting too late and i didn't really want to remove the airbox to check if it's nearby the charcoal canister (thought it was at the back, by the fuel tank; had the van jacked up but i couldn't see anything around the subframe...

could it be between fuel tank / chassis? or will that be in the engine bay? will that fix the problem at all?

also the VSV for the ACIS, i couldn't get a spec on all data but if it's same as evap, it should be 27-33ohms...i got 36 ohms not sure if i should have got that replaced first?!

I just had mine changed under warrenty at 98,000 miles.

On my way to work this morning my check engine light came on. i went to autozone and its error P0446. is this serious. do i have to fix it right away, like how much might it cost. please help

:cry:I have error P0446 after reading all the post i figuered i need to change the charcoal canister. the dealship told me its 297 dollars. do you think that is a good price? also how soon do i need to fix the P0446?.

Thanks!

p0446 means there is a leak in the evaporative emissions. The emission system is not properly venting fuel vapor. While this isn't tragic , it should be taken care of fairly soon. Most vehicles will not pass their SMOG test for registration with the ENGINE LIGHT ON and with more than 1 of the 12 monitors not completed, evap being one of them.
PM sent.

I am new to this site. I have been having problems and thought I'd google to see what I could find out. I couldn't believe it when I started reading these posts. I have a 2000 Camry and am experiencing the same exact problems (first replacing the gas cap, and now they're telling me $600 + for a charcoal canister). However, the code I got the past 2 times if P0442. I don't see these code referenced in any other posts.

They are telling me that this code is for the vapor leak / charcoal canister. Is this correct? Sometimes I feel like I'm being snowed.

Any information you can give me is greatly appreciated.

I am new to this site. I have been experiencing problems with my 2000 Camry and thought I'd do a search to see what I could find out. The search took me directly here. I have been experiencing the same problems. Check engine light has come on for the 3rd time in 3 months. I ended up replacing the gas cap and now they're telling me I need the charcoal canister replaced. However, unlike everyone else ~ the code I keep getting is P0442.

Someone told me that I might want to look into just having the canister purge valve replaced; however, the dealer said no that the entire charcoal canister needs replacing.

If we are having the same problems, what is different with P0442 code? I feel like I'm being snowed.

Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

If I had to make an educated GUESS. I would recommend them checking for a CRACKED ORVR. These are very common for cracking in 2000 carmy's and they usually give a p0440 or a p0442.
A charcoal canister is possible but without seeing the scan tool readings, this would be my second choice.

The ORVR is in the top of the fuel tank and is a an OVER FILL CHECK VALVE. If you were to TOP OFF the fuel tank, this valve bleeds fuel to the canister so it doesn overflow. They crack right along the top seam. Many ECHOS/COrollas/Camrys have this problem after a number of years.

Got the P0446 error on my 2000 Camry. I checked all 3 VSV's associated with this system, one at the air cleaner, one under the little plastic cover on the engine and one on the canister under the car.

Check them by removing them and blowing thru them, then jumping 12 volts from the battery to them and making sure that they change state. The one at the air cleaner is closed when energized, the other two are open when energized. I found that the VSV at the canister was stuck open. After much confusion with two dealerships about part numbers, etc. I found one in stock at a local dealer (part number 90910-12264) for $38.

Thanks to all on this site for helping narrow my troubleshooting down to the right components.

$38 is a great price. Go for it. I can beat that price, but the shipping makes it go higher. They are giving you a great deal. That CCV has a TSB for your Camry and that code. Great DIAG!:clap2::peace:

The dreaded CEL came back today...I'm wondering if the canister is shot. Maybe it will take a few miles to clear the canister of any gas that built up while the system wasn't working. Any suggestions??
