HELP! High whistling noise at cruising speeds with A/C and Recirculating switch on

I have a 2012 Tundra Crewmax Platinum and this summer I started noticing a high pitch whistling noise. This whistling noise happens at cruising speeds (between 45-57 MPH) with the AC on and with the air recirculation switch on. I’ve taken it to the dealer and they have concluded that it's tied to the air recirculation switch, as the noise disappears when this switch is off. The dealer’s had the truck for a day to see if there was a simple solution to fix this whistle and after a whole day of testing, they’ve come to the conclusion of replacing the heater box. Apparently this will involve a major strip down of the dash and crash bar in order to access the heater box. Questions...does anybody else have this issue in their Tundra trucks? And do you think the dealer mechanics are capable of putting everything back in place without creating any new dash rattles? I’m kind of apprehensive about this whole ordeal.

They are telling you the truth in that the HVAC unit is one big piece and does require ripping out the entire dash. There is no way around that. I work for Toyota and build Corollas so I see it at work often enough. And if they don't take the time to replace any clips that might get broken or are not careful while removing it, you could get squeaks or rattles. But maybe take it to another dealer before you pull the trigger on a job like that.
PM fritzindian. He is a member on here and a Toyota mechanic. There's nothing in it for him so I would think he would give you some straight advice.

Thanks for your input, I will shoot a PM to fritzindian. I did speak with the service technician who was working on my truck and he said he contacted Toyota factory and the regional service manager to get different opinions and they both have not heard of this issue. And their recommendation was to replace the HVAC unit. He also told me he's done a few of these tear downs in the past, for other reasons, on other Tundras with great success...which made me feel a little better.

Though not as extensive, the dealer took apart my dash to replace the clock in my early build 07 Tundra. When they put it back together they included a dash rattle kit, which is nothing more than a generic collection of foam, spacers, etc. to make sure everything looked right and didn't rattle. My truck remained tight and rattle free for 85K miles.
