What kind of gas milage is everyone getting I have about 23,000 miles on my 06 limited and we're getting right at 15.9 trying to crack the 16 mpg. just wondering if it gets better with time so please chime in all of you guys with all the milage on your trucks.:ts:

Believe it or not I am averaging between 18 and 19 on my 04. It was 14.6 for the longest time until I learned how to reset the computer. This is the first tank since the reset but it is almost gone. It is a good mix of hwy/city/stuck in traffic driving. I hope to do even better with a near future interstate fuel stop to fuel stop run. The computer trains me to drive conservatively. It is like I try to see how high I can get the "score".

My Sequoia hasn't gotten more than 14 mpg highway and no better than 12 in the city since I bought it and my wife drives it 85% of the time. How did you reset the computer. I need to try something to get the mileage up. Did you just disconnect the batery and take out some backup fuses for the computer?

For a while I was getting 17-19 highway and 14-16 city. the trip computer is a bit optimistic. Mine at 90,000 miles said it has gotten 17.8 in its whole life but I don't believe that. For some reason, lately I haven't been able to achieve the 18/19 mpg I used to be able to get on the highway. Cold weather maybe? But I assumed once the engine was warmed up, since cold air improves performance, it'd improve mpg too? I don't know, I have trouble keeping the Sequoia under 75 on Florida highways- traffic in this state is insane speed wise and the car is exceptionally quiet.

Heh let me tell you this. Towing massively huge logs across fields in 4 wheel drive low in L gear for a while will kill your mpg . I put it to the test the other day and I was supremely impressed by ATRAC's ability to keep me from losing traction. Even my American truck buddies with V8 fords and such were impressed.

No you don't need to do ANY of that. All you have to do is "PUSH AND HOLD THE TWO OUTSIDE BUTTONS" until the read out blinks. It take like 4 or 5 seconds. I think it has to be on something that has to do with "GAS" when doing the reset. So, don't reset it when it has the outside temp. on the screen. Reseting has nothing to do with any of the three garage door buttons either. I just push and hold the two most outside buttons (the two buttons are to the left and right of the three garage door opener buttons) rite after I fill up my gas tank. Or if you have never done it before try it out a few times even before you fill it up. Hope this helped, Johnnnny

In my opinion gas mileage depends on so much from state to state and driver to driver. I know here in New Jersey during the winter months all our gas stations get "oxygenated gas". During the summer months we get "non oxygenated gas". So, during the summer months when it's very hot and everyone has there A/C on and you go threw a lot of gas because of it. Then the winter comes and you think your going to start getting much better gas mileage because you don't need to use your A/C and like you said above your car or truck tends to run ALOT better because of the cold weather. I get the best gas mileage at the end of September and early October because the outside air is crisp and colder and the gas stations are still running non oxygenated gas from the summer months but then rite around the middle of October all the gas stations start getting the oxygenated gas in for the winter and then my gas mileage goes down the tubes and my truck doesn't run nearly as good. Not to mention how much it stinks the smell is so bad compared to non oxygenated gas. But now because of the oxygenated gas my truck is getting the same mileage it was in the middle of the hot summer when my A/C was on. So, In my opinion between peoples drastically deferent driving habits and so many states that run oxygenated gas for either the entire year or just for the winter months it's going to be VERY hard to get an accurate reading on gas mileage. Just My Opinion, Johnnnnnny :D

I did end up finishing out my last tank at the computer calculated 18.1 MPG and I am working on the next one after resetting the computer. I found the computer was pretty close to what I calculated. I hope to have the good mileage continue. I see some other owners want a bigger motor but for the 99% of the time I am not towing etc., I prefer the improved mileage but find the motor big and strong enough for the occasional more power need.

You have to drive below 70mph to get better mileage. Mine sucks gas at 80mph. 16.5mpg is my average for freeway driving around town. Here in Dallas/Fort Worth, our summer gas is a martini blend with a large % ethanol. It produces less power and my mileage decreases 2mph. So I'm using more fuel.

If you want mileage, get a highlander. Otherwise, drive less.

My mileage has certainly varied. Prior to an oxygen sensor failing, my MPG had dropped to about 13 city, 15 highway. After getting it fixed, it went back up to around 17.5 driving 77 mph w/ AC. I used to get 18-19 driving 65-70 with NY's lower speed limit. Believe me - 5-10 MPH is a HUGE difference on MPG. I'd bet it could pull 20 without a problem at a constant 55 mph.

I have a 2006 Limited 4X4 and with 24k miles and I get exactly what you get, 15.9 to 16 per the display overhead. I reset it with each tank. The worst mpg I got was an even 15 and the best was about 16.9 but that was all highway miles. I'm actually happy as hell to get 16 mpg with a V8. I used to drive a Durango and I was lucky to get 10 or 11 mpg.

From the time I bought it, until earlier this year when I learned to reset the screen, I got an over average of 16.4. After resetting it, it didn't vary much from that. City, between 12.5 - 15.5 mpg, highway up to 19.5. Now I've put BFG A/T's on it in a larger size and it shows that I average around 15 - 15.5 mixed driving. I didn't replace the speedo gear, and am not going to, so I'm pretty sure the mpg & speedometer will not read correct, but close enough for me. I just got back from Oregon and the last leg of the trip was 350 miles (according to the trip odometer) and I put in 22 gallons. If the new tire size makes that much difference, then the 350 miles is not correct. Oh, and most of those highway miles were at 75 - 80 miles per hour. I'm sure if I took it easy on the skinny pedal and kept it at the posted limit my mileage would improve.

In my '01 on a trip from Florida to Ohio last week, I filled up and headed out on a 2 lane state route, at 55-65 it averaged (on the trip computer) between 20.5-21.0 for at least 2-3 hours. When I got onto I-65 and upped the speed to the 75-80 mph range it dropped to 18.5-19.5 (this is without resetting the computer from the 20.5-21.0 setting). When I reset it a few hours later it stayed in the low to mid 18's with speeds varying from 65-80 mph depending on traffic. This is windows up, a/c cranked, 4 people and lots of luggage.

Regular city driving nets in the 15-16.5 range. Pulling a 3200 lb. boat at 65-70 mph it averages about 12.5.

My real-world math is putting the computer about 1 to 1.5 mpg optimistic depending on terrain/speed etc.

For comparison, my brothers '03 Durango gets about 13 hwy, and my friend says his '03 Expedition gets 14 hwy. I dont know about the Expedition, but I witnessed the Durango first-hand. Its truly horrible. He claims 7 mpg pulling a 24ft pontoon boat.

What size BFG AT did you get? So are you saying that you lost 1 mpg with the tire size change? I'm getting the the BFG AT 265/70/17 tomorrow. Right now I have the stock Dunlop 265/65/17. I ran the specs to show me the difference after I change tire sizes and here they are:

Sidewall height +.52
Section Width 0.00
Overall diameter 1.05
Circumference 3.27
Revs per mile -22.61

If your speedometer reads: 65 You're going approximately: 67.23

So I get a 1 inch diameter (lift) increase and the speedometer only reads 2 mph slower. I think thats a good trade off.

maverick, that's the same setup I went with, the BFG A/T KO 265/70/17.
I'm not that good at physics or whatever math is needed, and I don't know or understand how the computer figures the odometer mileage. I just assume that if the speedometer is slightly off because of the tire size, then the actual mileage that the odometer shows will be slightly off too. So I don't know that the odometer or mileage computers are figuring the mileage and miles travelled accurately.
Maybe someone else has found this out.
I do know that the new taller tire rubs - at full turn on the driver's side. It isn't enough to worry, but is is noticeable.
But the looks has definately improved, and the tires are much better off-road than those crummy stock duelers it had. Now I just need new wheels to match the more aggressive look of the tire......just need more money.

I got the tires and headed out to Stanislaus National Forest and did some off roading. The tires look great and I didn't notice any rubbing at all. They performed extremely well off road. The mpg actually stayed exactly the same for me. I avg. 15.9. I have pix of the tires on my Sequoia in my photo album. Just click on the little camera above.

Looks good.

What kind of kayak rack is that ? Does it work as good as it looks like it does ?

Thanks, they are the Thule top deck saddles: Thule Top Deck Kayak Saddles from REI.com

They fit on the factory cross bars and are very secure. I also use rachet tie downs. I drove four hours to Stanislaus in heavy wind conditions and they do not move at all.
Just the fact they'll fit the factory bars makes them worth it. When I got my kayak, all I could find were foam pads that were cutout to fit the bars. They're not very secure and the straps to secure them hum pretty loud at highway speed. I'm gonna get those saddles. :ts: for the info. :tu:

I used to have the same problems when I used to throw the kayaks up on the factory rack and tie them down. The shrieking wind noise was irritating as hell and the kayaks would shift causing me to pull over suddenly on the side of the highway to readjust. These Thule kayak racks are perfect because of the position they are in they have eliminated road noise and load shift while driving. The only thing I can hear now is the wind aerodynamically flowing past the kayaks when the sun roof is open. Otherwise when it is closed I don't hear a thing.
