I would never put a cover on that had snaps. They will rust, tear through with use, and don't really seem to pull tight very well. I am also not a big fan of any of the type of covers that use a 'covered wagon' type of support brace. You know, the type that the supports are semi-permanenet, where they would be in the way of loading say a motorcycle into the bed, without having to stop and remove them. Also, I don't feel the need to spend the big bucks on some of the hard style covers that remind me of Rolladen Hurricane shutters for your home, laid on the truck bed. These sure are nice, but seem a bit of overkill to me.
I had an Access Cover on my last truck, it was super easy to install and use. The fabric was very heavy duty, durable, and it looked as new when I traded my truck in. Lockable too.

I would stay away from Peragon. While I have to give them credit for being innovative I can't say the same for the design's ease of use or robustness. And it takes hours to install with a finikey alignment. I think there is a reason why Peragon only sells direct on the internet; any dealer worth his salt would be embarassed to have one on display.

The Peragon experience was what has led me to find a cover that does not use integral guide rails or similar as part of it's design. I gotta be able to use the bed like a work truck when the cover is retracted or removed without itenerant rails remaining to get bent or damaged. Looking at covers it appears the new Solid Fold (or Trifecta for semi-soft) would be a first choice followed by Fold-A-Cover. The Solid fold uses no side rail structure whatsoever and the Fold-A-Cover leaves small hardy rails on top of the bed rails that look like they could take more side-loading punishment than any others. The Fold-A-Cover also gives access to open front or rear panel. I'm still leaning toward a Solid-Fold. Neither makes are ready for the new Tundra as of this date but they're working on it.

After my Peragon experience I promised myself to see a cover in person (installed or in-store display) before buying.

The Fold a Cover should be available very soon. I believe the part number is TT6632 for the Tundra Double Cab 6.5 foot bed WITH the deck rail system. You may want to contact them on the part number. I've been in contact with them for several weeks on the progress of production. The last I heard, production on the cover would start this week. I was told mine would arrive in about a week. I'll post photos as soon as it is installed.

How about narrowing the playing field. Do you want a hard or soft cover?
ok , mostly looking for a soft cover , roll up type. i google some hard types and they look great but i need to have my bed access on a whim and they cost too much. i figured to stay away from snap types.have heard you need good support/tension or rain will fill the middle. thanks again

I have had hard covers (ARE) and now a hard folding cover (Bakflip). The Bakflip is nice because it gives you instant access to the bed and is about half the price of the hard cover. It seems to have a nice fit/finish and was easy to install. Time will tell if I made the correct decision. Check the Bakflip website for info/videos if interested.
Cheers.

thats cause those things are crazy money rambn, and they freeze. anyway i hear a lot of talk about problems with snaps rusting and tearing through. my opinion, nonsense! i had a cheapo sportmaster hinged cover with snaps and three years later as the dealer took in my 04 limited as part of the trade for my 07 he said nice cover! so.... i am waiting delivery on an extang full tilt snapless this week from truck addons dot com. $297 i hear the snapless are a little though to roll up. hope not, wanted to go with a cleaner look. i like the tilts cause there faster to get into and if your tailgating they protect from sun and wind. my 2 cents!

I bought a '93 F-150 some years ago that had a fiberglass bed cover on it , don't recall the brand, I needed to take it off to haul some stuff shortly after I bought the truck, it never went back on. It was just too heavy, and too much hassle, so the cover stayed in the garage until I sold the truck. I love the looks of the hard fiberglass bedcovers when they are painted body color, but they just aren't a good idea if you actually plan on using your bed for big stuff. I like the look of the Undercover and the flexability of the Bakflip type folding setups, wouldn't seriously consider the soft vinyl tops, don't like the looks, and have concerns about the various rollup units. In the end it really depends on your uses, and tastes.

I put a Bakflip on my dodge a few weeks back and really like it. Hard, Lockable, segmented and folds up out of the way for carrying bigger items. Pretty cheap at 700 CDN, no drilling.

Exactly what kind of problems? I, too am planning on going with an easly removeable hard cover and have seriously been considering the Bakflip especially for it's one man operation etc. But am concerned when I hear that they have had problems (in the past).

Warped panels, rivets that did not penetrate, and leaks. By the way, I have nothing agains Bak, I'm just reporting what I hear.

Here's a cut and paste from a Ridgeline forum posted today regarding the Bakflip:

Severe water leaks at the front corners, along the side rails, and along the hinges, both on the original and on the warranty replacement. The original also leaked at the plastic fitting for the drain hose that's screwed to the rail on the right-hand side. (Not the drain hose itself.) Other than that....

And broken promise after broken promise from Bak.

Bak has had many problems in the past. My understanding is that they have tried to correct these problems. If you buy a Bak product, I suggest you look it over really good.
Meant to ask earlier, since you obviously have a professional interest in these sorts of things (judging by previous posts), what do you think of the Extang Solid Fold I was planning on getting as far as build quaility, design, etc.?

I know they aren't out yet for the new Tundra, but I get the impression that they have been available for a while for other trucks, so thought you might have had the opportunity to see one in person.

:ts:

Actually the Solid Fold is brand new and I have not seen one. However, the mounting is the same as the Trifecta and I am familiar with that one. I think the Solid Fold has the potential of being a very popular cover. But, it's a new cover, and like a new truck model, there might be a few bugs to work out.

I have had a Torza Top on my last two trucks and will be getting another for the Tundra. They fold in 3rds and makes quick easy access to 2/3 of your bed without removing or you can remove/install the whole thing by yourself in less than 1 minute and they weigh maybe 20lbs if that? No tracks or anything to install, you could open the box and have it on your truck in about 2-3 minutes after receiving it.

I emailed undercover about their covers.

this was the reply:

"WE WILL BE SHIPPING THE DOUBLE CAB OUT IN ABOUT 3 WEEKS AND THE CREW MAX ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THAT. THANKS"

i am looking foward to buying one of their covers

Undercover ™ is the new standard in tonneau covers. Our Patented X-effect ™ design and advanced polymers give this tonneau cover unparalleled strength and durability at a fraction of the weight and less cost than fiberglass.
I emailed Undercover yesterday (5/21) and the VP of marketing said that it would be 45 days. I have two friends who have the Undercover (Dodge & Ford) and they are awesome. It's a hardcover, but it's 'plastic' and very light. My buddy with the Ford takes his on and off all the time by himself. It's fairly water-proof (although they won't tell you that) and lockable to protect your cargo--which is what I want. I've always had camper shells on my pickups so that I can throw my camping/hunting gear in and not have to worry about it.

Hopefully they're over-estimating their dates and it'll be available sooner. I can't wait to get mine.
