Screeching noise from wind gusts

Hi Everybody
I searched the site and found nothing on this topic(I'm also not very good at searches).
I have had my truck to the dealer a couple of times for this issue.
When driving into a headwind and or wind gusts at 70+mph I get a screeching noise coming through a seal somewhere in the cab. It sounds like it is coming from around the windshield but who knows where it may be coming from.
It sounds nearly like when you hold a piece of grass between your hands and blow on it.
It will also do it when I meet large truck traffic. Kind of scares the SH*& out of me - like an alarm clock!

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Next time you wash your truck do this:

Mix a real bubbly soap. Start the engine, crank the heater and blower up. Make sure all the windows are up and tight. Close the doors(make sure you have spare key in your pocket) Put some of that bubbly soap around the windshield, side windows, door gaps and look for bubbles coming up. If you see some, then that's where the leak is and most likely where the noise is coming from.

Thanks Art64
I never thought to try that and will give it a shot.

I do notice however that the side windows create bubbles right where the mirrors attach while in the carwash, but I don't think that is where the noise is coming from.

Sounds like the moulding around the outside of the windshield is catching wind...

Get 70 MPH winds alot?

You're welcome. I believe I saw this trick on tv. I can't remember what tv show. It was years ago. Maybe Shade Tree Mechanic.

The more bubbles the bigger the leak. Once you find it, after you've washed and dried the truck, put some duct tape on the area and do a test drive just to confirm that particular leak is the culprit. Hope this helps you.

Mine does it only on really windy days when passed by transports (coming at you) I sort of think it is the heater fan (the wind causing it to hit the casing), try fooling around with the vents and fan speed to confirm. I was going to take it in to the dealer but there is no way they are going to be able to recreate the same conditions. It really scares the sh*t out you when it happens.

this is not tundra related. i dont know what does it. but i have had the exact same thing happen, on about 3 different vehicles now. its the weirdest thing, and i have no idea how you could go about tracking down the culprit.

Toyota is aware of this problem on this model. They installed different window trim pieces on my truck, so we will see what happens. Cross winds from about a 45 degree angle will drive you nuts. Speeding up or slowing down does not even help much. Keeping my fingers crossed.
