There really is not that much difference btwn the sport and o/r. The interior is the same. The only difference is a smaller sway bar for the o/r so it will articulate better. The sport option has "sport" tuned bilstiens and the o/r version had a couple skid plates underneath. Other than that they are the same ride height. Oh, and the sport has the 17" wheels and a more highway friendly tire. Other than that they are pretty similar and yes, you can only get a double cab long bed in the sport option, and you get the hood scoop on the sport.

My double cab long bed sport should be in in about a week and a half - cant wait - :tu:

use toyota's dealer search, search by state and search the dealers inventories. 4x4, DC, TRD Off-road's aren't hard to come by in this area and there are dealers with 30-40 Tacomas on their lot. A lot depends on their allocations which are based on previous year truck sales. Find the volume truck leader for your 5-state area and you will probably have better luck

Mine's a DC, 4x4, TRD Off-road...had I not been picky about wanting VSC, Curtain Air Bags and only one of two colors, I could have had my choice of trucks from about 7 different dealers within a 100 mile radius.

Keep the faith, get what you want, even it means ordering (preferencing)...that's what I did and it killed me waiting for 6 weeks, but now I have the exact truck I wanted

Thanks guys, I am looking for a TRD DC with short bed. I plan to install a SnugTop Or Leer top with rack for my kayaks and bikes. I still have my trusty 91 but I sold my very nice Tundra TRD AC. A fellow at work insisted on buying it and gave me an excellent price for a primo vehicle. I just never liked full size trucks. The new Taco is the perfect size, small enough to go offroad and large enough to pull my Boston Whaler boat and I hope in normal use maybe a couple of more mpg over the Tundra. I have driven a few non TRD 05s and they really don't have as quiet a ride as my Tundra and the engine is not as smooth. I think some of the extra engine noise is intentional as the Taco is clearly oriented to a youth market. Other than that the Taco had a well controlled and smooth ride, peppy engine and probably the stiffest frame/body structure I have ever come across.
I am not desperate to buy now, I can wait for an 06 if I must. I am not thrilled with the colors available this year either, the silver is nice but the dark blue is kinda purple. I am to picky I know and this paint chipping thing bothers me because I live on a gravel road and they put ground up rock on the roads here in the winter as well.

I further intend to install variable lift coilover shocks up front and may run an add a leaf on the rear. I will probably run 265-75 BFG ATs and ditch the Long trails or Rugged Trails as I did not like them at all on the Tundra. The ATs made the Tundra a different truck entirely as did the lift and I plan not to suffer through 20 to 40,000 miles of those OEM tires again. I also like those Four real guards and side bars.

I probably just don't understand but wha is KBB? Thanks.

Thanks for encouragement but this is the most rediculous thing. I think Toyota must be in some kind of problem to be half way through a year and no trucks out to buy. I think I might should hold off and let this settle out. The only other explanation is manufacturing problems--in the process-- that is reducing the factory output. Why else would you have willing customers with cash in hand and refuse to provide product other than simply not being able to.
Two4x4, this is not a Toyota problem but a dealership problem. They give out allocations to your local area based on what they sell. I live in Colorado Springs, and practically every Taco out here (and in Denver) is a 4x4. A majority of those are TRD Off-Road. In fact I see fewer non-TRD, or TRD Sport than the O/R. This is likely because I live in the "mountain states" so I suspect you being in KS is the problem.
I got my '05 for under dealer invoice in January! Just keep looking and consider coming out here to buy.

Reread what he's asking for guys... he's looking for a 4x4 DC TRD/OR with a LONG BED.
Go to the Toyota web site and put in your zip code. Mine is 91710, and that option is not available in my area. This is not a dealer problem... it is an issue with Toyota's distribution system. They simply aren't building that option package.

Same goes for the Denver area. The Long bed is only available in 3 configurations... two TRD Sport and one straight SR5.
You can get TRD/OR with the short bed in both markets.

I am sorry, if I said long bed that was not correct. I want a TRD O/R DC. These only come with the shorter bed and that is what I am wanting. I saw a beautiful silver one complete with SnugTop and side airbags today at the Home Depot but there was no dealer sticker on it and I gave up waiting for him/her to come out. Sooooo, they exist!
Yes, I suspect Kansaw is a dumping ground for the leftovers no one wants. I have noticed this in other consumer goods here as well, coming from AZ and other places this is a real problem here.

DOH!
Ya... it's me that needs to do the re-reading. I'd swear that I saw it up there somewhere :)
Ya... should be available. Toyota's web site shows that it is, so this is a dealer problem.
How many dealers are in your area?

Taco DC SB TRD #2 4X4 silver

You are right. I am from Texas and all 5 srouranding states did not have a DC SB trd#2 4X4 silver. I found my in Ioaw. I had to give a $500 dep just to hold it while I paid for the truck. Anyway, I paid $600 to have it delivered to my front door. It only had 6 miles.

Do not give up. There out there. You just have to keep searching all over the nation.

By the way, I have not had any problems with mine. I bought my early Feb. Today it hit 10,500 miles and the maint light turned on. I will bring it in for my second oil change and tire rotations.

Good luck.

Hugo

I also had to order my truck and it took a few days shy of 3 months to get it. While I was waiting, I went to other dealers and they said a truck for that price doesn't exist and none of them could do it. I kept waiting and my truck came in as promised. :tu:

When I got my '05 in February, the dealer had 19 '05 Tacos on the lot. You name it, they had it. I was over a few weeks ago and they still had a crap load of them sitting there.

I'd bet good money they didn't have a DC LB with TRD Sport #4 (PK), airbags (GY) and JBL stereo (EJ) in a 4wd ;)
