Antenna question.
2001 Toyota Sequoia antenna. This is the position it has been for a year now. This forum is the best resource to find answers.
Anyone have a solution?
I did search on YouTube. No satisfactory answer. Same labor to either replace this antenna, or to completely remove it and install a fixed "screw in" antenna.

I should mention, in a past life, we drove a Ford Taurus in California. It had this type of antenna. When it failed and needed to be replaced, a friend who worked at a dealership, spent 10 minutes after work, pulled out the old antennae, and with me holding the rocker switch on... was able to feed the antenna in and voila.... was perfect.
Toyota Sequoia first generation, the antenna motor activates when initially turning the ignition key on to start. a short a mount of time sufficeint to raise the mast, and the motor then stops.... whrr whrr whrr whrr.... the motor is willing. but antenna? not so much.

Try spraying some WD40 on it and turn on and off the radio to cycle the antenna. It might just need some lube. If the antenna raises to full height, use a cloth and wipe it down with oil. I do this to mine and haven't had any trouble with it for three years.

It is definitely broken. This is common on Toyota trucks. In general, the fix is similar your old Taurus, a new antenna needs to be run into the motor. It is simple in theory but there are probably broken pieces of the old one stuck in the motor. You'll most likely need to take out the antenna motor (from under the wheel well) and remove what's left of the old one. There are a lot of videos on youtube about this. I watched them for 4runners, tacomas, land cruisers. They're all the same. Overall, this is not complicated, but took some time and a bit of skin off my knuckles.

Have you tried this?

Or you can go to a fixed antenna.

Use the search function and type in something like power antenna and read any threads in the gen 1 Sequoia section.

I have an ‘04 Sequoia . . same problem with antenna. Replaced it twice with aftermarket antennas, which were really easy to feed into the antenna mount. Neither antenna lasted more than a few months. I checked the price of a new antenna, without the mount, at my dealership . . .not much difference in buying the entire assembly instead of just the antenna. Service tech told me that if the dealership installed a new antenna, the warranty would last as long as I owned the SUV. Pricey, but worth it. I’ve had it replaced once since then, at no charge to me. Same for my rear hatch latch & cable.
