The other day I pulled the back seat out of my 2002 AC Tundra to take some measurements and noticed what appear to be vents in the back wall. They open out between the bed and the cab. I have been very curious about the purpose of these vents. Does anyone know? I have been doing a lot of work on my audio system and was wondering if closing/blocking the vents would improve sound quality in the cab. I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question :D.

You don't wanna close those. Thats where the air escapes when you close the door, turn the fan on etc. It those vents were not there pressure would build up because of heat or other reasons = discomfort and possibly popping window out when slamming door.

I seem to get a lot of dirt coming through those vents, not exiting. Both are plugged with foam now...it does a pretty good job filtering. Better solution would be pop the vent and stick a piece of louvered metal (opening down) on the back, filter in the middle, another louvered vent (opening up) on the inside (gotta keep water penetration in mind). It would be much lower profile than the big chunks of plastic.

I closed the right vent because my 14" Kicker amp is on the back wall right over it. Don't notice difference, but yes i had some leaf or smth in there. Some thin foam(or piece of some filter) +heat gun to seal it up.

Thanks guys. I think I might put some foam in them because I've noticed a lot of road noise coming through them. I think closing them completely is out of the question because I don't want to pop my ears every time I close the door.

I want to completely seal off the pass side vent. Any recommendations that don't require moving or removing the bed?
break it up like i did, and then use good quality sealant with some material to cover hole up. Don't cheap out on the sealant or toy will have pool in the truck some day soon.
P.S. i used sheet of 1/16 plastic and gutter silicone.

I bought a car wash sponge and cut it up and stuck it in each slot, then made some caps out of thin plastic and used white duct tape to fasten them.

The original plan was to come up with something similar to what Sean's describing with the louvers and vents.......just haven't had time to get to it yet. I was hoping he'd get his done before I got around to it :D.

Anyways, airflow is still just like it was and the glass is still in it for the most part............
